Description of Academy:

The aim of this academy is to equip participants (Principals, Special Education Administrators, Dean of Students) with enhanced insights and a wider array of strategies to address the social-emotional and behavioral requirements of our students. Frequently, we encounter learners exhibiting defiance, engaging in physical or verbal aggression towards peers and/or adults, and displaying self-destructive tendencies. Yet,

comprehending the underlying reasons behind these behaviors and determining the most effective ways to provide support can often elude us.  Attendees will receive evidence-based resources along with practical scenarios to facilitate real-world application in addressing the social-emotional needs of students in our

educational settings. Participants will gain a deeper comprehension of social-emotional learning and how to effectively support students facing social and emotional challenges, equipped with strategies applicable at the classroom, school, and district levels. This academy is in alignment with the Illinois Professional School Leader Standards.

About the Presenter:

Dr. Marie K. Stover, the Assistant Superintendent at Morris Elementary School District 54, brings over twenty years of experience working with students with special needs across various educational environments and grade levels. She is passionate about supporting the whole child, with a deep commitment to addressing the social-emotional needs of children to foster their overall well-being and success. Dr. Stover proudly serves on the Illinois Prevention Subcommittee of the Homeland Security Advisory Council and the advisory board for Will-Grundy NAMI, and she is an active member of both the Illinois Association of School Administrators (IASA) and the Illinois Alliance of Administrators of Special Education (IAASE).
